Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Perfect Mavimbela is a highly experienced Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist with more than six years of post-qualification clinical experience supporting babies, children, and young people. Dedicated to helping children reach their full potential, he provides personalised, evidence-based occupational therapy that supports sensory processing, regulation, motor development, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

Known for his warm, collaborative, and family-centred approach, Perfect places great importance on listening carefully to parents and carers, taking the time to understand each child’s strengths, preferences, and individual needs, and creating a supportive environment in which families feel confident to ask questions and take an active part in their child’s care.

Combining specialist clinical expertise with a strengths-based, neuroaffirming approach, Perfect is passionate about early understanding and timely support. Through thoughtful assessment, practical guidance, and collaborative goal-setting, he works closely with families to reduce barriers to participation and help children engage more comfortably and confidently in the activities that matter most to them.

Sensory Processing, Regulation and Neurodivergence

Perfect has particular expertise supporting autistic and ADHD children and young people, as well as those with a wider range of developmental, sensory, motor, and learning differences. He provides comprehensive, personalised occupational therapy for concerns that affect how children experience and navigate everyday occupations, helping families gain a clearer understanding of their child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs.

Parents commonly seek his expertise for concerns relating to sensory processing and regulation, participation in daily routines, fine and gross motor skills, handwriting and school-based skills, and difficulties accessing learning or play in a way that feels manageable for the child. Recognising that every child develops differently, Perfect takes the time to listen carefully to families, answer questions clearly, and provide practical, reassuring guidance in a calm and supportive environment.

He has up to Level 2 training in Sensory Integration through Sensory Integration Education (SIE) in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, and is a Certified Therapeutic Listening Practitioner. He has also completed DIR® 101 through the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL) and is progressing towards DIR® 201 certification. This continuing professional development reflects his interest in sensory processing, communication, regulation, relationships, and the environments in which children and young people learn, play, and participate.

Assessment, EHCP Support and Multidisciplinary Care

Perfect provides comprehensive occupational therapy and functional assessments tailored to the individual child and the purpose of the assessment. His approach combines clinical observation, functional analysis, and recognised standardised assessment tools, selected according to the child’s needs and preferences.

These tools may include the Movement ABC, BOT-3, Beery VMI, and SPM-2, alongside other formal and informal methods where clinically indicated. His aim is to understand not simply what a child can or cannot do, but how they experience and navigate their environments, what supports their participation, and what adaptations may enable them to engage more successfully in everyday activities.

He has extensive experience delivering occupational therapy within EHCP and EOTAS packages, and contributing to EHCP applications, annual reviews, and SEND Tribunal reports. Working collaboratively with children, families, education teams, and multidisciplinary professionals, he helps develop support that is responsive to individual strengths, preferences, and needs. At London Paediatric Clinic, he works as part of the wider paediatric team so that occupational therapy can sit alongside medical and developmental care where that is helpful for the child.

A Strengths-Based, Family-Centred Approach

Perfect takes a strengths-based, child-centred, and neuroaffirming approach to practice. He recognises that neurodivergent ways of communicating, regulating, and engaging with the world are valid forms of human variation. His role is not to change who a child is, but to understand their individual experience, identify barriers to participation, and work with families to create environments and strategies that support wellbeing, autonomy, and access to meaningful occupations.

Where appropriate, his work may involve adapting the environment, modifying expectations, developing supportive routines, exploring sensory and movement-based strategies, and building on a child’s existing strengths and interests. He is particularly interested in the interaction between sensory processing, regulation, motor development, communication, relationships, and the environment, and how these factors influence a child’s ability to participate in everyday life.

Through a compassionate and collaborative approach, Perfect aims to make therapy practical, meaningful, and sustainable for busy family life. Success is defined not simply by performance or compliance, but by increased access, participation, confidence, autonomy, and quality of life, helping children take part more fully in the activities that matter most to them.

Professional Background and Clinical Experience

Perfect qualified from Stellenbosch University in South Africa with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). Since then he has built specialist experience with children and young people in mainstream schools, specialist provisions, post-16 settings, and clinic work.

He supports a wide range of neurodevelopmental, sensory, motor, and learning needs, and brings both education and clinical experience into how he works. Care stays rooted in what helps a child take part in everyday life. He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC Number: OT089166) and is a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT: BT00869887).

At London Paediatric Clinic, Perfect works as part of the multidisciplinary team at 90 Sloane Street, Chelsea. He offers clear assessment, practical guidance, and joined-up support for families, with a thoughtful, family-centred approach aimed at helping each child reach their full potential.

Training, Education Settings and Continuing Development

Alongside his clinical work with individual children and families, Perfect has particular experience supporting participation in education settings. He has worked extensively with children and young people in mainstream schools, specialist provisions, and post-16 environments, helping teams understand sensory, motor, and functional needs in the context of learning, play, and daily school routines.

His continuing professional development reflects a sustained commitment to deepening his understanding of sensory processing, regulation, communication, and relationship-based approaches. In addition to Sensory Integration training through Sensory Integration Education (SIE) and Sheffield Hallam University, Therapeutic Listening® certification, and DIR® training through ICDL, he remains focused on approaches that help children feel safer, more regulated, and more able to access the occupations that matter to them.

Committed to combining specialist knowledge with compassionate care, he continues to develop his practice so families at London Paediatric Clinic benefit from clear assessment and strategies that carry into everyday life.
