Lila Digkliou
MSc RD
Specialist Paediatric and Diabetes Dietitian
HCPC Number: DT27649
Lila Digkliou is a highly experienced Specialist Dietitian with particular expertise in paediatric nutrition, diabetes, and family-centred nutritional care. Dedicated to supporting children and families through every stage of growth and development, she helps parents better understand their child's nutritional needs while providing personalised guidance to promote lifelong health and wellbeing.
Known for her compassionate, practical, and family-centred approach, Lila places great importance on listening carefully to parents, taking the time to understand each family's routines and needs, and creating a supportive environment in which families feel confident to ask questions and play an active role in their child's care.
Combining more than 11 years of NHS experience with a strong commitment to prevention and sustainable, everyday change, Lila is passionate about helping children and families build healthy, lasting relationships with food. Through thoughtful assessment, education, and ongoing support, she works closely with families to establish healthy nutritional foundations and provide the reassurance and guidance parents need at every stage of their child's development.
Paediatric Nutrition and Feeding
Lila has particular expertise in paediatric nutrition and feeding, with a special focus on supporting children from infancy through to adolescence. She provides comprehensive, personalised nutritional assessments for a wide range of feeding and growth concerns, helping families gain a deeper understanding of their child's needs and how best to support them.
Parents commonly seek her expertise for concerns relating to weaning and the introduction of solid foods, fussy or selective eating, restricted diets, feeding difficulties in infancy, slow weight gain or growth concerns, and the transition to a varied, balanced family diet. Recognising that every child's relationship with food develops differently, Lila takes the time to listen carefully to families, answer questions, and provide clear, practical guidance in a supportive and reassuring environment.
Drawing on recognised growth charts and nutritional assessment tools, Lila aims to identify concerns as early as possible and guide timely, practical changes where needed. Her goal is not simply to correct a feeding difficulty, but to help each child build a healthy, sustainable relationship with food, and to provide parents with the understanding, confidence, and long-term support they need to navigate their child's nutritional journey.
Diabetes and Metabolic Health
Lila has a specialist interest in the management of Type 1 diabetes in children, young people, and adults. She provides expert support for those living with diabetes, including carbohydrate counting, insulin management, and insulin-pump therapy, as well as specialist care for women with diabetes before and during pregnancy.
Drawing on her extensive experience in diabetes care, Lila provides personalised assessments and long-term support tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Her aim is to help patients and families understand their condition, manage blood glucose confidently, and guide timely adjustments that help optimise outcomes and support day-to-day quality of life.
Recognising that living with diabetes can be a demanding and, at times, overwhelming experience, Lila works closely with patients and families to provide reassurance, practical guidance, and continuity of care. Through a collaborative and person-centred approach, she aims to give patients the confidence and support they need to manage their condition well, at every stage of life.
Family-Centred Nutrition and Preventative Health
Lila is passionate about family-centred nutrition and believes that many of the foundations for lifelong health are established during childhood. Her approach extends beyond providing a meal plan alone, focusing on prevention, sustainable habits, and empowering families to support their child's physical, emotional, and nutritional wellbeing.
Taking a holistic and collaborative approach, Lila works closely with parents to understand the eating culture of the whole household, including mealtime routines, feeding patterns, and each family's relationship with food. She has a particular interest in supporting sustainable weight management and specialist dietary requirements, such as coeliac disease, and believes that small, realistic changes can have a profound impact on a child's long-term health and development.
Through education, practical guidance, and — where appropriate — in-person support within the family home, Lila aims to help families establish healthy routines, build a positive relationship with food, and provide children with the strongest possible foundations for lifelong health and wellbeing.
Professional Background and Clinical Experience
Lila is currently a Highly Specialised Paediatric & Adolescent Diabetes Dietitian at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a role she has held since 2022. Alongside her clinical work with children and young people, she draws on more than 11 years of NHS experience across paediatric and adult diabetes services.
Before joining St George's, Lila spent almost six years as a Highly Specialised Diabetes Dietitian within paediatric and adolescent services at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, and earlier worked as a Specialist Diabetes Dietitian across adult and adolescent diabetes services at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This breadth of experience across paediatric, adolescent, and adult diabetes care has shaped her practical, whole-life approach to nutrition and diabetes management.
Lila has devoted much of her career to supporting children and families living with diabetes and broader nutritional needs, combining specialist clinical expertise with a thoughtful, family-centred approach. Recognising that every child and family is different, she works closely with families to provide personalised guidance, reassurance, and long-term support aimed at helping each child thrive.
