He provides comprehensive paediatric care for a broad range of childhood conditions, with particular expertise in newborn medicine, developmental concerns, growth and feeding difficulties, behavioural and sleep problems, and the management of both acute and chronic illnesses. By taking the time to understand each child’s individual needs, Dr Chaban aims to help children thrive physically, emotionally, and developmentally while giving parents the reassurance and guidance they need.
Training and Clinical Experience
Dr Chaban completed his specialist training in paediatrics and neonatology before obtaining a Master of Science degree from University College London. Over the course of a distinguished career spanning more than 25 years, he has held senior consultant appointments at some of London’s leading teaching hospitals.
He was appointed Consultant Neonatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 2013 and subsequently became Consultant Neonatologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2015, where he continues to contribute to the care of newborn babies requiring highly specialised treatment.
In recognition of his expertise and leadership within the field, Dr Chaban has also served as Associate Director of Perinatal Neurosciences, a role reflecting his longstanding commitment to supporting babies with complex neurological conditions and promoting healthy development from the earliest stages of life.

With a specialist background in neonatology, he is particularly experienced in supporting babies and children with complex medical and developmental needs, while placing a strong emphasis on preventative healthcare and promoting lifelong wellbeing.
Research and Publications
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Chaban has maintained a strong commitment to research and academic medicine, with particular interests in neonatal neurology, brain imaging, cerebral biomarkers, neuroprotection, and the long-term neurodevelopment of high-risk infants.
He has been actively involved in several important national and international research collaborations, including the MARBLE and MARINAC studies and the Cool Xenon 3 trial, which have contributed to advancing the understanding and treatment of neonatal brain injury and improving outcomes for vulnerable newborn babies.
Dr Chaban has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and research papers in internationally recognised medical journals, including Thorax, Archives of Disease in Childhood, Acta Paediatrica, Early Human Development, Journal of Perinatology, BMJ Open, and PLOS One. Through his continued involvement in research and education, he remains committed to ensuring that the care he provides is informed by the latest evidence and advances in paediatric and neonatal medicine.
